Exploring Time and Space

cross cultural sparks

So I am always wondering if this travel to China and interest in another culture is making any difference to anyone other than me.  I am really hoping that in some way I can bridge the cultures, to the extent that I can learn, and offer insights at home.  Who knows what I might learn and share and the result is great for humanity.  It is like the merging of two cultures and you keep an eye out for the spark that might happen!  Four or five centuries of history and knowledge presumably accumulated in me and then several thousand years or more of history and culture over there which is impossible to think about actually making a difference.  Just one little person among billions of possibilities.

Well, I believe that lightning struck at my house the other night.  There were sparks flying from one culture to another!  My daughter Grace, who never tried using chopstix before I went to China and only tried because I made her try when I came back, was eating flamin’ hot cheetos with chopstix!!!!!

Let’s let that sink in for a minute!!!  She was eating flamin’ hot cheetos with chopstix!!!!!   She was poking the chopstix into the bag like a Chinese person eating Chinese food with chopstix – expertly.  She would pull one or two out and pop them in her mouth like little dumplings. Flamin’ hot cheetos are a unique American food (I believe) that can not be eaten with a knife or a fork or a spoon.  Yet they cover your fingers with burning hot orange powder.  Enter chopstix!  Pure genious!  Clean fingers, delicious cheetos and cross cultural sparks of something magical happening.
