music here and there
My age, sex, and race do not easily give away my music preferences. But I do lean heavily towards English language songs with some appreciation for Spanish language as well. I love wandering around city streets in China listening to Cardi B, 6lack, Miguel, The Weeknd, Sam Smith, or Ricardo Montaner, but I think if one is to be immersed in a culture, one should be immersed in the music as well. Most of the Chinese music I have listened to is good, interesting, ok, but lacked the ability to keep my attention, to pull me into it, to help me get lost in the feelings.
Then in March of 2018 a friend in Dalian, China played a song and I just loved. Finding it and keeping it for playing on my phone was not easy. I had the song in WeChat. I could play it in China. I listened many many times. Then when I returned to the US I got an error message that the song could not be played outside of China. So I tried to find it but searching for Chinese songs in the US iTunes store is difficult at best.
Finally this week my friend Alex found the song in mp3 format and sent it to me. And I share it with you below, in the hopes that other Americans can enjoy a small taste of Chinese music.
I am working on the translation and will add here when complete.
